Fees & Policies

Initial Consultation

Choosing a therapist for your personal growth and healing is an important decision. My intake policies reflect the weight of this process and are designed to help you make the best informed decision about your care. For individual sessions, the initial consultation fee will only be charged if you make a follow-up appointment. If you choose to not begin therapy with me, you will pay no out-of-pocket expense for our first meeting. For family and relationship/couples sessions, I do not bill for the initial short conversation, which typically happens by phone. If we decide to proceed, the first session is then billed normally. I typically find that there are great benefits to meeting in person, but I am also available via telehealth when there are concerns around health, accessibility, etc.

Fee

My fee is $250/individual session and $300/family or relationship/couples session. I am an out-of-network provider and can assist you in determining whether you have OON benefits and providing the necessary “superbill” if so. The reimbursement process is often straightforward and affordable. Deductibles, copays, and co-insurance payments are required as specified by your insurance carrier. If you’ve never used OON benefits for mental health coverage and don’t know if your plan includes them, I encourage you to ask your insurance provider these questions:

  1. Does my plan provide out-of-network benefits for mental health or behavioral health services?

  2. If so, what is my deductible?

  3. Once my deductible is met, at what percent will you reimburse me for these services, i.e. what is my co-insurance? Is this based on an “allowed amount,” or the provider’s full fee? If the former, what is the allowed amount?

  4. Is there an out-of-pocket limit, beyond which my insurance covers 100% of the allowed amount or full fee?

If asked, the “CPT Code” for individual psychotherapy is 90834, a 45-minute psychotherapy session, and the CPT code for family and relationship/couples psychotherapy is 90847.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the law, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Patients who are not using insurance are entitled to an estimate of the expected charges for psychotherapy and medical treatment. You can ask your provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
